For small US CPA and EA tax firms
Less time untangling.
More time reviewing.
**Headline:** Statements in. Tax-ready books out in 3 business days.
**Subhead:** TieOut Desk turns a client's bank and card statements into a first draft workpaper for your firm. You get a categorized ledger mapped to Schedule C, a monthly tie-out proof, and a list of questions for the client. Your preparer reviews and signs. Your firm's name goes on it, not ours.
**Buttons:** - [Request a free pilot file](/pilot) - [See a sample workpaper](/sample)
Problem
Bank exports need a second look. Missing rows, duplicates, and unclear descriptions can slow down review.
How It Works
1. **Send statements.** Upload the client's bank and card statements through a secure link. PDF or CSV. 2. **We build.** Every transaction is sorted to a Schedule C line by a written rule. Transfers, card payments, and owner draws are pulled out of income and expenses. 3. **Tie-out proof.** Each account is proved against the statement for every month. You see PASS or FAIL on each row, with the difference. 4. **You review and file.** Your preparer reviews the draft, sends the client questions, makes the calls, and signs the return.
What You Get
One Excel workbook per client-year:
- **Cover:** what is in the file, a preparer review checklist, and scope and limits. - **Tie-Out:** per account, per month. Opening balance, deposits, withdrawals, computed closing, statement closing, difference, PASS or FAIL. - **General Ledger:** date, account, description, amount, category, Schedule C line, rule ID, confidence, and a flag. - **Schedule C Summary:** totals by line, built with formulas from the ledger. Meals shown at 50%. - **Client Questions:** one plain question for each item we could not place with confidence. Ready to send to the client. - **1099 Watchlist:** payees paid by check, ACH, or Zelle with $2,000 or more in the year that look like services or rent. - **Transfers and Draws:** card payments, transfers between accounts, and owner draws, kept out of the P&L.
Every number is a formula you can trace. Every category points to a rule ID you can read.
Security
Your clients' data is the job. Here is what we do today:
- Files are stored encrypted. - Client files are deleted 30 days after delivery. Ask and we delete sooner. - We never sell or share client data. - We sign your data-protection terms or NDA.
Your firm is covered by the FTC Safeguards Rule and needs a written information security plan (IRS Publication 5708 and Publication 4557). We will give you a short written summary of how we handle files, so you can list us as a service provider in your plan.
To be plain: we have not had a formal security audit yet. When that changes, this page will say so.

Faq
**Can you work from scanned statements?** Yes, if they are readable. PDF downloads from the bank work best. Scans and phone photos take longer. If a page cannot be read, we tell you which one before we start.
**Which banks and cards do you support?** Any US bank or card that issues monthly statements. PDF statements or CSV exports both work.
**Can I import the books into QuickBooks?** The General Ledger is a plain table you can filter, sort, or copy. We can also send a CSV in the 3-column layout that QuickBooks Online bank upload accepts (date, description, amount). Categories do not carry over through that upload, so use the ledger as your guide when you assign them.
**Who reviews the work?** Every file passes an automatic tie-out and a second automated review before it goes out. Your preparer does the professional review and signs the return. We are not a CPA firm and we do not give tax advice.
**What if the books do not tie out?** You see it. The Tie-Out sheet shows FAIL on the row, with the dollar difference. We try to find the cause first, usually a missing page or a missing transaction. If we cannot fix it from what you sent, we tell you what is missing and add it to the client questions.
**How long do you keep client data?** We delete client files 30 days after delivery. You can ask us to delete them sooner.
**Do I have to sign a contract?** No long-term contract. You pay per file. If your firm has data-protection terms or an NDA, we sign them.
**What changed with 1099s for 2026?** For payments made after December 31, 2025, the 1099-NEC and most 1099-MISC threshold is $2,000, up from $600. Gross proceeds paid to attorneys stay at $600. Source: IRS Instructions for Forms 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC (Rev. December 2026). Our 1099 Watchlist uses the new $2,000 threshold.
